As a camera changes focus for various distances, so does the eye need to frequently change focus, from reading to looking at a computer screen and then to the teacher at the front of the class.<\/p>\n<p>Focusing is achieved by the lens changing shape inside the eye. This action is controlled by muscles that relax while looking far away and contract when looking up close.<\/p>\n<p><b>Accommodation is an essential <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optometrists.org\/childrens-vision\/vision-for-school\/vision-therapy-and-reading\/can-you-improve-your-childs-academic-performance\/\">visual skill necessary for effective learning<\/a> and for all school tasks including reading and using computers.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>When a person has accommodative dysfunction they could experience eye strain, fatigue and even blurry vision. The most common treatment for accomodative dysfunctions is glasses and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optometrists.org\/vision-therapy\/guide-to-vision-therapy\/\">vision therapy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Types of accommodative dysfunction<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>There are generally three types of accommodative dysfunction:<\/p>\n<p><b>1.Accommodative Insufficiency <\/b>&#8211; the most common type of accommodative dysfunction, accommodative insufficiency makes it difficult for a person to efficiently maintain focus on near objects.<\/p>\n<p>Increasing effort to maintain clear vision can decrease performance on near tasks.<\/p>\n<p><b>2. Accommodative Infacility <\/b>&#8211; when a child has difficulty efficiently switching focus between near and far away objects, and then back again.<\/p>\n<p><b>3. Accommodative Spasm <\/b>&#8211;\u00a0 when a person has a spasm of the focusing muscle. This prevents the focusing muscles from fully relaxing, most often causing blurry distance vision.<\/p>\n<h2><b>What are symptoms of accommodative dysfunction?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Symptoms of accommodative dysfunction include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Avoidance of detailed near work<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Blurred vision looking at near objects<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Difficulty sustaining attention, especially on near work<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Difficulty switching between near and far<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Difficulty with copying from the board<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Eye fatigue<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Eye strain<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">General fatigue, especially later in the day<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"
