This can result in eyelid muscle spasms, called spastic entropion, and a rolling of the eyelid edge toward the surface of the eye and cornea.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Congenital condition.<\/b> If the entropion is present at birth, it may be due to an extra fold of skin on the eyelid that leads to \u2018turned-in\u2019 eyelashes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Who is at risk for developing entropion?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>The following factors can increase your risk of ectropion:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Age, in particular above 60<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Previous burns or trauma<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Trachoma infection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Is entropion dangerous?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><b>Entropion poses a risk to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optometrists.org\/general-practice-optometry\/guide-to-eye-health\/how-does-the-eye-work\/ocular-anatomy-the-front-of-the-eye\/\">cornea<\/a> and can lead to ocular damage, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.optometrists.org\/childrens-vision\/guide-to-pediatric-eye-conditions\/a-guide-to-eye-infections\/\">infection<\/a> and permanent vision loss, if left untreated.<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Seek emergency care if you have entropion and you experience any of the following symptoms:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Sudden vision loss<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Light sensitivity<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Increasing redness in your eyes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are signs that your cornea may be at risk.
