{"id":8789,"date":"2021-10-01T10:38:12","date_gmt":"2021-10-01T10:38:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.optometrists.org\/?p=8789"},"modified":"2020-12-29T17:57:10","modified_gmt":"2020-12-29T17:57:10","slug":"how-to-protect-your-eyes-from-halloween-makeup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.optometrists.org\/how-to-protect-your-eyes-from-halloween-makeup\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Protect Your Eyes From Halloween Makeup"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Halloween costumes are notorious for heavy makeup and face paint, but did you know that costume makeup contains chemicals and additives that can be potentially harmful to your eyes and vision?<\/h2>\n<p><i>These tips will help you to protect your eye health and vision while still being able to rock your costume and amaze your friends and family:\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Read the directions carefully<\/b> before applying any product to your skin and beware that many costume makeup products are not intended for use around the eyes.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do not apply any makeup products or face paint <b>directly to your eyes<\/b> or the skin around your eyes\u2014 stay above your eyebrow bone and at the level of your cheek bones.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avoid costume eye makeup products like <b>stick on eyelashes and heavy paints<\/b>. Instead, use your eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara that you use all year long.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Look for products that say <b>\u201chypoallergenic\u201d<\/b> on the label to reduce your risk of an allergic reaction.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Test the product<\/b> on a small area of your skin before using it on Halloween day to be sure that it will not cause any skin irritation.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Avoid eye glitter<\/b> at all costs.
