What is myopia?<\/h2>\n

Myopia<\/a> (nearsightedness) generally begins in childhood, when a child\u2019s eyes grow and develop at rapid rates. If the eyes elongate, or grow too long from front to back (axial length), images will be focused in front of the retina<\/a><\/i>, instead of directly on the retina<\/i>\u2014 resulting in blurred vision.<\/p>\n

Since the eyes continue to grow and develop until around age 20, myopia can worsen for many years until it eventually stabilizes.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

As recent research shows a strong correlation between high levels of myopia and the development of serious eye diseases, myopia progression has become a growing concern among many optometrists.<\/p>\n

Optometrists have developed a program called Myopia Management<\/a>, which includes various options to correct vision, while successfully preventing myopia from worsening.<\/p>\n
